What we made happen
As Director of Facilities and Maintenance and member of the School Superintendent’s Executive Committee, Mr. d'Avi directed and managed today’s equivalent of a $300,000,000 (today’s escalated value) school capital construction program, school design and planning of approximately 4,000,000 Square Feet of existing physical plant, in an expanding school system of approximately 32,000 FTE Students (42 campuses, 4,000,000 GSF) .
As head of a Facilities / Maintenance Department, he led the county’s largest construction organization (135 Trades People). These schools included renovations and new community education facilities, high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, and shared use facilities throughout Marion County, Florida. He assisted the team development and administration in MCSS' Ten-Year Plan.
His duties involved the selection of Architects and Engineers, Construction Managers, and other Consultants. He made community-televised presentations to the School Board twice monthly on agendized issues requiring its approval. As the Director of Facilities, he had a "100% approval record" on all items brought before the Board on behalf of the Superintendent.
He had the “lowest cost” and “best value” schools in the state of Florida with change orders averaging below 1%.
